Under The Fridge

Is it just me, or does all the fun stuff happening nowadays with Javascript in web browsers (”AJAX“)
look exactly like all the fun stuff that was supposed to happen with Java in the mid 90’s.

I remember thinking, as I tried the HotJava web browser, that it’d let us do neat interactive web based
applications cross platform. Kill the stranglehold that MS had on the desktop market.

Microsoft killed Java in the browser because they identified the threat. I can’t believe that they’re not
about to try killing Javascript for the same reasons. And possibly in the same ways. They almost managed
with IE4, but this time the battle isn’t against Netscape, it’s against everyone.
